The PIC16C57 from Microchip Technology is a family of low-cost, high-performance, 8-bit CMOS microcontrollers with EPROM/ROM-based memory. Its RISC architecture offers 33 single-word/single-cycle instructions, with most instructions completing in a single cycle. The highly symmetrical 12-bit wide instructions enable 2:1 code compression over other 8-bit microcontrollers in its class, reducing development time significantly.

The PIC16C57 is equipped with special features like Power-on Reset (POR), Device Reset Timer (DRT), and various oscillator configurations to choose from. Additional features include power-saving modes, a Watchdog Timer, and Code Protection, enhancing system cost, power efficiency, and reliability. The product line includes UV erasable CERDIP packaged versions for code development and cost-effective One Time Programmable (OTP) versions for production.

Making use of Microchip’s price leadership in OTP microcontrollers, the PIC16C57 offers flexibility and high performance. Supported by a range of development tools including a macro assembler, software simulator, in-circuit emulator, and development programmer, the PIC16C57 simplifies the development process and ensures compatibility with IBM PC and compatible machines.
